Well looks like Twitter is down again. I’ve been using it quite a bit. Got to love all of these social networks. Great way to waste time.

Yesterday I finally received my invitation to hulu.com. I remember signing up for this a couple of months ago and I was starting to think I would never hear back from them. What this site allows you to do is watch TV shows and movies. They’ve got a pretty good selection of shows right now. Shows from NBC,FOX, as well as others, both currently running and classic are available. Navigating the site is pretty simple and easy to find what to watch. The quality of the video was pretty good and I only ran into a buffering issue once in the 3 or 4 shows I’ve watched this far. Right now the site is free which is good but you do have to sit through some ads when watching a show. I was viewing the site in linux so the video player would not let me do full screen, so I was a bit disappointed by that. Overall I was pretty impressed with the site and it’s nice to be able to catch up on some of the shows I’ve missed. I don’t think this site will catch on with most people though cause they can’t watch the videos on their TV, only on their computer.
On the left is an older HP desktop. On the right is one of the new Dell desktops. Maybe it’s just me but they look very very similar. I really like Dell systems but I think they could have tried a little harder on the design. When I first saw the new Dell system I thought “Man, that looks so familar.” After a quick Google search I came across the pic seen above.

Alright linux fans. It’s time to put your money where your mouth is. Dell is finally selling machines with linux preinstalled. I’m pretty excited about this and I know a lot of people out there are. The real question though is will this be a successful venture. Lots of people said they wanted to have linux preinstalled so now that it’s here from a major hardware vendor, will the fans really buy into it or were they just blowing smoke. Only time will tell.

Within only a few days of Dell opening a new customer feedback website, they discovered that the feature most requested (by an almost 2-to-1 margin!) is an option on all new Dell PCs: pre-installed Linux. (And the number 3 request is pre-installed Open Office.)
I really hope Dell takes notice of this and starts having Linux preisntalled on their machines. This would be a really big boon for the Linux community and would give people that are turned off by Windows Vista another alternative. Everyone should digg this story and vote on the Dell website to show their support for Linux and open source software.
Lasonic showed off their prototype old school boombox that has been updated for the new millennium. We admired the 5 band equalizer, USB/SD/MP3 support, DVD drive and sweet analog tuner. Hopefully Lasonic will actually bring this to market for their $250 pricetag, because we really don’t want to “go back to 1985″ to relive the experience.

With all my computer knowledge and all the things I instruct other people to do with their computers you would think I would not make a stupid little mistake. Well last night I made a stupid little mistake. I clicked on a file that I didn’t make sure was safe and it instantly filled up my hard drive with all kinds of spyware and other internet nasties. I tried to clean everything off but it was to no avail and I ended up having to completely reformat and reinstall Windows.
Now this would be an easy attempt for me to just say no to Windows but in this case the infection was totally my fault. So remember boys and girls, don’t click on files from the internet unless you are sure they are safe and virus free.
I heard about this the other day and it was fun little time waster to play around with. What it is a text to speech demo. It has a few different voice types. It’s works pretty good. Except for a few words sounding a little off it sounds pretty natural as well. Check it out.
In case anyone out there didn’t know…the blog was down for a few days. I screwed something up with the database but now everything is back up to normal. Lesson for the day is not to screw around with technical stuff you don’t totally understand and NEVER delete anything unless you’re totally sure you want to delete it.
